What is BT Answer and how do I set it up?

You may miss a call when you're in the garden or out of the house, but BT Answer never will. It will greet your caller and take their message when you can't get to the phone.

It's Free!

You don't pay anything for listening to your messages on your home phone. You can also listen to your messages from another touch-tone phone, including your mobile.*

You even get text messages. If somebody sends you a text message and you don't have a text phone you can still get the message. Answer will convert the text message to speech. This can then be collected from your Answer mailbox.

You will be alerted to a message by a broken dial tone and once you've picked it up the tone will return to normal. Calls are transferred to voice mail if you are on another call.

BT Answer Extra

With Answer Extra you can have 1, 2 3 or 4 mailboxes. As many as four people in your home can have their own mailbox - each with a personal greeting and private password.

Now the only person who gets to listen to your messages is you! Calls are transferred to a mailbox when your phone is busy or if there is no reply.

This mailbox is divided up into 4; the main mailbox and three extension mailboxes. Callers can leave a message in the main mailbox or choose up to three menu options to leave a private message for an individual.

All 4 mailboxes can be password protected.

Cost of BT Answer Extra

Listening to your messages is free of charge from your home phone. Checking your messages from another phone is charged at normal rates. The recurring monthly charge for the service is €2.21 (Inc VAT at 21.5%).

Once you have ordered Answer, this service will be available within 48 hours for a normal phone line. If ordered on an ISDN / High Speed line, this service will be available within 7 days.
