Why can't I send email with Outlook Express?

In order to send email successfully with Outlook Express or any other email client you must use the correct SMTP Outgoing Mail Server. The correct server address must be supplied to you by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

The outgoing mail (SMTP) server address for a BT Broadband or Dial-up connection is mail.iol.ie

If you use a different Internet Service Provider (ISP) to connect to the Internet you will need to contact them to find out the correct outgoing mail SMTP mail server to use.

  1. Open Outlook Express,
  2. From the top menu bar, click TOOLSACCOUNTS.
  3. Select the MAIL Tab.
  4. Highlight your account, click PROPERTIES.
  5. Go to the SERVERS tab.
  6. Change your SMTP server details to mail.iol.ie
  7. Click APPLY > OK > CLOSE
  8. Close and open Outlook Express.
