Why are my username and password always rejected when I log on?
There are a number of reasons why you may be unable to log on to BT Ireland or IOL because your username and/or password were rejected:
  • Check the case of your password.
Passwords are case-sensitive so OPENSESAME is different to opensesame.
Make sure that the Caps Lock key is not activated and then enter your username and password again.
  • Check your username.
  • Check that you are not being asked for the Windows username/password.
When User Profiles or Family Logon are enabled in Windows, you will be prompted for a password when the computer starts. This is NOT the BT Ireland or IOL logon, so using the BT Ireland or IOL username and/or password here will not work.

Your username was assigned to you when you originally signed up for your account. If you are not sure what your username is you can call us on 1800 924 924 (Option 3, then Option 2).

Quick Tip: When you do successfully log on to BT Ireland or IOL, before you connect again make sure you place a tick in the empty square next to 'Save password' in the Connect To window, as it is in the picture below. You can do this by moving the cursor onto the box and clicking the mouse button once. This means you won't have to keep entering your password every time you connect to BT Ireland or IOL.
