Why do I get an error when sending attachments?

There are a number of reasons why you may receive the error 0x800ccc19 when sending an attachment. These include a combination of the speed of your connection, the size of the email you are sending and the server timeout value in your email program.


This problem has also been observed in some configurations that use antivirus software to scan email. The products in which this problem occurs may vary. However, these symptoms have been observed in configurations that include Norton Internet Security 2005, Norton AntiVirus 2003, Norton AntiVirus 2002, or McAfee software products. To resolve issues of this kind, contact your antivirus vendor.



You could also try to resolve the problem by extending the server timeout settings on your email program. If you use Outlook Express please follow the instructions below.

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. At the top of the page, click on Tools > Accounts.
  3. Click on the Mail tab.
  4. Highlight your email account, click on Properties.
  5. Click on the Advanced tab.
  6. Move the Server Timeouts slider to 2 minutes.
  7. Click Apply > OK > Close.
  8. Close and then re-open Outlook Express.

Try and send any email messages that are left in your Outbox. If you continue to receive the error and have antivirus software installed on your computer, you can try to fix the problem by turning off outbound email scanning.
